TheSantorini Princess hotel & apartments stands out amongst other Santorini luxury hotels, in that rather than being perched precariously on the cliff face, it’s set on level ground a few meters back and is resplendent in cream rather than the stark whites of the hotels found in Santorini Oia. Near the village of Imerovigli and accessed by a track leading off the main road, the Santorini Princess Hotel is owned by two brothers, whose wealth of ideas and experience make a stay there a suitably different one from other Santorini luxury hotels & apartments.

Their service philosophy is all about the guest and adding that personal touch to their stay. As we tour the grounds, guests who we encounter are greeted by name, asked how they are and engaged in brief and always polite, conversation. This friendly, almost family feel is reflected when browsing the comments left in the guest book at reception. Most guests, if not all, expressed how they ‘would miss the staff the most’ after returning home – quite something when a view as spectacular as the one found at the Santorini Princess hotel awaits you every morning.

On arrival at the Santorini Princess hotel, you are greeted personally by one of the managers and after a fast check-in, are treated to a tour of the apartments and the facilities that will be yours to enjoy during your stay. After passing through the pool area and sundeck, you ascend some steps to reach an upper lounge and its almost 360 degree view of the sea, Santorini Caldera and mountains. The view at Santorini Princess Hotel is accompanied by ambient music and the area is big enough for privacy seekers to hide away in a corner. This lounge is also used to host weddings and had in fact been used for this purpose the day before our visit – one can only imagine the impact of a Santorini sunset wedding ceremony at this wonderful location.

Moving back through the Santorini Princess hotel you are shown the excellent spa facility, where you can enjoy anything from a massage to a manicure and pedicure, and the intimate a la carte restaurant with its fine selection of Santorini wines. Each location you visit has a member of the hotel’s staff on hand to give a small presentation; ensuring new guests are instantly familiar with what’s on offer. After the tour is complete, you meet your bags in your apartment. The Santorini Princess hotel has twenty two apartments in total, each sleeping two to four people, and boasting a Jacuzzi, air conditioning and a large balcony. Styling is very individual and according to the owners, each room has been accessorized by their talented mother. Unusual wall hangings, flowers, contemporary furniture and abstract paintings mesh well with the splashes of colour elsewhere, creating a unique atmosphere for each different room.

TheSantorini Princess hotel stands almost alone in its location and thus affords a different level of privacy than others Luxury hotels in Oia. But this slight isolation makes a car come recommended; ensuring exploration of Santorini’s towns and villages is simple. The hotel can arrange this and unusually, there is plentiful parking right outside. The Santorini Princess hotel is also ideal for anyone who doesn’t want to be climbing steps all day long, as there are very few here.
