It isn’t just that either, the photograph brings the minimalist style found throughout the Santorini Katikies hotel out perfectly too. The stark white-painted buildings and grey pathways combine with the varying blues of the pool and the sea to create a tranquil and, especially at dusk, highly atmospheric location. Winding stairs, tiny bridges and some private nooks make exploring the Santorini Katikies hotel an enjoyable, almost surreal, experience. The theme continues in the luxuriously appointed rooms, of which there are just twenty five.

In keeping with traditional Santorinian style, the rooms of Santorini Katikies hotel resemble caves carved out of the rock face that the hotel has been built on. None of the rooms are what you would call expansive, but by Santorinian standards, they are spacious enough. Don’t let this put you off however, as these intimate rooms are far from anything one would normally expect when living in a cave. Bright, welcoming and in the summer, cool and airy, even the entry-level double rooms have a private veranda with a sea view. But to enjoy the Santorini Katikies hotel properly, one of the suites would be preferable.
